The S 1000 RR is BMW’s first superbike, producing an exceptional 193 horsepower and yet tipping the scales at just 403 lbs. (dry weight). As well as cutting-edge race technology, such as optional lightweight race ABS and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), it has impressive torque – for an exhilarating ride both on and off the racetrack. The S 1000 RR. Welcome to planet power.
My First Ride On The S1000RR
By: James Johnson, MotoMarin's Certified “Sport Bike Advocate”
Within minutes I felt right at home, this bike feels as neutral at 5 mph as it does at canyon carving speeds, as I later came to find out. To start I contained myself and opted for the rain mode, allowing myself time to get familiar with the riding position and chassis set-up, both of which were instantly confidence inspiring and well calibrated. Perusing the dash and controls whilst making my way through the obligatory urban sprawl, my eyes were gratified by a clear and well organized dash, dominated by a digital speedometer and gear indicator. Just to their right is the digital engine temperature gauge and a welcome digital clock, all of which is within a peripheral glance. Getting onto the freeway I was also comforted by a clear and wide view from the rear view mirrors and the turn signals, which now operate using the universal switch style, proved easy to use and well placed. The wind protection at freeway speed was clearly short of an RT, but the wind pressure was clean and without turbulence. I was pleasantly surprised by the riding position which is relatively comfortable, and yet all sport, all at the same time. Even so, this was not the environment in which this bike would be judged and exiting the freeway and onto some familiar back roads the bike didn’t so much wake up, as just started to do what it was already doing, faster, much faster. Tire profiles, spring rate, ride height, chassis attitude and damping settings were all in the sweet spot, right out of the crate – amazing! As speeds and angles of dangle increased the bike showed its race development - everything worked: braking was linear and progressive, suspension controlled and responsive, and the engine builds power strongly and smoothly…. I had to grin when I remembered I was still in “rain mode”! Marin county’s rodeo for roads, when taken at speed, will usually have a sport bike pilot repeatedly holding an even throttle until the chassis regains composure, but the S1000RR’s stability over humps, bumps and irregularities rivals that of its cousin the R12GS, absolutely incredible. I found myself rolling on the throttle in places where I would usually hold it level in anticipation of head shake, wheelies whilst cresting rises, or continuing to power- on over damp patches through the Redwoods knowing full well that the DTC would step in if my exuberance were to get the better of me.
Having taken note of road conditions on the way out, it was time to turn around and make my way back, but this time in Sport mode. I had only gone through the first two gears when, somehow, every expletive I have ever known came immediately to mind and a manic grin shot across my face, this thing is absolutely unbelievable! Stupid fast yes, but without the stupid, this bike handles 193 horsepower with total composure, and is every part a BMW and every part a race bike. The mind boggles at the math that went into putting this thing together, but they got it right, very right. My job at Moto Marin has its moments, but there are some moments that you just don’t want to end, and for me, this was definitely one of them.
The new BMW Motorrad “Concept 6” was unveiled at the 2009 EICMA show in Milan on November 10, 2009.
The design of “Concept 6” is focused on a powerful 6-cylinder in-line engine. Conceived as a mixture of classic and modern stylistic elements of motorcycle construction, Concept 6 takes up the formal style of the legendary café racers with a long front section and short rear. In powerful, muscular style, the body elements enclose the platinum-finished engine, displaying it with relish from all angles.
There are particularly soft lines which organically integrate the engine on the one hand but also contrast powerfully with the sharply contoured front and rear section, generating tension and dynamism.

Motorcycle Of The Year is awarded to the BMW F800GS!!
“BMW has been thinking way out of the box lately, and there is perhaps no better evidence than
its unstoppable new F800GS adventure tourer.” writes Rider. “Far narrower with its upright
parallel twin, and like the 1200 [GS] offers a tremendous amount of satisfying performance.
Chain final drive, 9 inches of suspension travel, a 21- and 19-inch front/rear spoked wheel
combination and plenty of twin-cylinder torque give it much better off-road ability than its boxer
brethren, yet the F800GS has enough on-road legs that you can haul down the highway from fillup
to fill-up in satisfactory comfort without stopping.” .... see the entire article

K1300S and K1300GT... Ready for Demo!!
The interceptor. The athlete. Aerodynamic, avant-garde. Do you know of another sporty bike with this profile? A bike that develops such pulling power with 175 hp that it take the heat out of many a 200 hp bike? But a bike you can still take out on a quick trip simply because it has great everyday suitability? At the same time a technological treat? The reasons: 103 lb/ft (140 Nm) from 1,293 cc – and at 8,250 rpm too. With a throaty sound from a cool, hexagonal tube. With catalytic converter and exhaust valve. And with fuel consumption and exhaust emission values which would suit many a machine with half the dynamic performance.
2009 K1300S and K1300GT are in the showroom now!
